Norwich Research Park

Europe's centre for research in health, food and environmental sciences

The Norwich Research Park is a collaboration between the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, and four independent research centres; the John Innes Centre, the Institute of Food Research, the Sainsbury Laboratory and from July 2009 The Genome Analysis Centre.  The Norwich Research Park is home to over 30 science and IT based companies making the NRP a vibrant place to do business as well as research.

With over 9,000 people the Norwich Research Park has one of Europe’s largest single-site concentrations of research in Health, Food and Environmental Sciences.

We are internationally recognised for the excellence of our research in the plant and microbial sciences, food, health, environmental sciences, computer and information systems and chemistry. An analysis of the most highly cited scientists in the UK over the past 20 years reveals that Norwich is ranked 4th after London, Cambridge and Oxford (New Scientist, 1 July 2006/Thomson ISI).

The six partner insititutions work together in integrated, multidisciplinary teams to address the challenges of the 21st Century:

Earth and Life Systems

 - integrating the physical, life and social sciences to provide solutions for global climate change, sustainable agriculture and food security: Earth and Life Systems Alliance (ELSA)

Food and Health

- combining food and medical sciences to provide rigourous evidence in support of advice for life-long human health: Norwich Centre for Preventive Medicine

Plant and Microbial Natural Products

 - developing crops with optimum levels of nutrients to address the Food and Health agenda and sources of renewable materials for industry; new molecules from microorganisms for pharmaceuticals and industry.

The NRP Office acts as a first point of contact for enquiries coming into and from within the NRP.  We facilitate collaboration between researchers on the NRP and support their engagement with business and the public.
